The 2021 505 North American Championships will be hosted by Sail Newport and sailed in the pristine waters of Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound off of Newport from September 29 to October 3. Newport is one of the world’s most storied sailing venues and the early fall offers still-warm(ish) waters, a mix of thermal and frontal breeze conditions, and course options that feature flat- and very very not flat water.
The draft NOR and other info is posted here.
Sail Newport is a world class sailing venue with a regatta management team that has recently hosted the Volvo Ocean Race, I420 World Championship, America’s Cup World Series, Match Race World Tour stops, and a slew of one design class championships. Facilities include a huge grass rigging area and easy and ample beach and ramp launches, awesome venues for post-race social activities (fingers crossed), easy housing options, and plenty of things for non-sailing family members to do.
The New England fleet is growing quickly, with a few boats picked up last year and several more for this coming year, and is excited to host an exciting, challenging, and memorable championship.
The event is designed to make continuing on to Worlds as easy as possible, with container(s) being loaded after racing to be delivered to New Jersey, from where they will sail to Bermuda. Your personal gear list shouldn’t be any different for Newport than it will be for Bermuda.
