Nine teams from the East Coast and Canada gathered in Clearwater, FL for this year’s Midwinter Championship. An early-March schedule brought welcome warmer weather—especially appreciated by northern sailors coming off a particularly cold winter.
The regatta featured a consistent pattern of light easterlies shifting toward the south and southwest as the sea breeze developed, and over three days race committee were able to complete nine quality races.
In the end, Ethan Bixby and Ted Huebner tied on points with Craig Thompson and Adam Wolnikowski, but claimed the championship with more race wins. Duane Delfosse and Mike Hull finished third overall, just two points back. Barney Harris and Chris Gorton had a standout final day, winning three of the four races.
Post-sailing debriefs on Days 1 and 2, led by Craig Thompson, sparked valuable discussions on tactics, conditions, and boat setup—highlighting the collaborative and teaching spirit of the East Coast 505 fleet.
